Brian Wegener Farther Giants reminds me of everything that I love in a great film/opera score. Repeating motifs, thematic tones, epic moments, and a sense of wonder and awe that few albums create. Farther Giants is concept album that gives the listener freedom to define the tale it tells. It vaguely follows a wanderer lost in a surreal world and consumed by reflection. Written to be experienced as an entire work from start to finish, the story is told through the development of a small set of musical ideas over a series of changing soundscapes. Each song takes into account the ones that came before; transforming its materials into shapes that are sometimes familiar and sometimes unrecognizable. Written and recorded over 3 years, through ups, downs, computer failures, gear theft and a real life near death experience, the lyrics reflect a personal journey that fluctuates between a meditation on fate and an obsession with self-fulfilling prophecy.

Easily one of the best metal albums of the 2010s, which says something. Musically, it's like you've taken black metal, doom, and good old NWOBHM and thrown it into a blender for a while.
